My wife and I had a tent that was leaking. So we took it back to rei and got a gift card for its current selling price. They assured us that they haven’t seen it before with that tent so it was probably something missed in manufacturing. But I just kind of want one of these. Light, bombproof, a little space between the floor and wall to keep a constant fear that a critter might just crawl in to join us.

Looks like a great price. What’s unconventional about it? Mountain hardware makes great gear and shit clothes. I’ve owned a Mountain Hardware sleeping bag for over a decade with no issues. Has. When all over the world. Got it on sale for like $40 and it included a compression sack.

Do you do the kind of hiking that necessitates a lightweight tent?

Pre kid me? Yes, lots of backcountry camping and some winter backcountry camping, which these kinds of tents can be good for. Since having my kid? Less so, but we are planning on getting back to it next summer.

Ok. It’s a nice tent, no doubt. When I tent it’s usually a base site and then we go from there rather than take it with us, so I have a much more substantial tent for the family.
I wouldn’t fret anything MH makes. I’ve had more than a few of their gear and clothing and they all last and wear really well.

Two things make it pretty unusual. First is, it’s only one upper layer of waterproof fabric, rather than a usual tent that’s a breathable non waterproof layer, and then e “rain fly” over that when needed. Second is that isn’t “freestanding” so it can only stand up when you stake it out(and mind you, you should be staking out any tent well).
I love mountain hardwear. We have a really old mtn hardwear tent that has been bombproof, but it started showing its age and it was a little tight after we had our kid. We got a bigger REI one to replace it when we had a kid and in one year it’s broken a pole and leaked on two trips.

Gotcha, didnt see those deets from the description. Looks good for backpacking. That price is killer for a high quality tent.
I only recommend REI brand stuff for my friends who may use it four or five times a year. Their stuff is always crap if you use it a lot. A couple buddies couldn’t understand why I spent $400 on my current family tent. I’ve owned it about four years now and use it twice a month in the desert SW and it’s still going strong.

Came here for this. One of the other types is also acceptable.
